Shape Up for Summer with Soy

 In Blog

Sport a fit body this summer by eating soy now.  While you still need to exercise and watch calories, soy can help.  Award-winning author and weight management expert, Monica Bearden RD, helps men and women get ready for summer with these top three eating tips:

1.  Increase your protein – to stay full longer and look leaner.  Replace three servings of carbohydrates a day with soyfoods.  Try a tofu scramble for breakfast, enjoy a cold glass of chocolate soymilk with lunch and eat some warm edamame with dinner.

2.  Stay fuller longer – edamame (young soybeans) and soynuts are great snacks that will not only keep you full until your next meal, but will also give you the nutrients you need to be fit.

3.  Increase the overall nutrition of your diet – drop those empty-calorie foods and choose foods rich in nutrition and taste.  Soy provides healthy nutrients, such as potassium, folate and sometimes fiber, as well as high-quality protein, the “good” unsaturated fats and flavonoids (also found in cocoa, tea and wine).

“Small, simple changes in your diet and activity level are the keys to successful, long-term weight loss,” adds Bearden.  “For example, choosing a soy veggie burger as your entrée can make a huge difference in the number of calories eaten.  Do this on a regular basis and you’ll see your weight go down.”
